Drain Rooter/Cleaning:
Although Drain Rooter/cleaning is an effective way of clearing a stoppage, it’s not a permanent solution.
When a mechanical snake (Rooter) is inserted into the drain line it will, in most cases, give temporary relief of the stoppage. The problem is, after the Rooter Machine is removed there is normally a large amount of debris stuck to the inner walls of the pipes causing the stoppage to return. The only way to help eliminate the problem on a permanent basis is to pressure wash the inner walls of the pipe.

Hydro-jetting is the only proven way to return the inner pipe to as close to its original condition as possible. The process will scour the inner walls with between 1000-30000 psi of high pressure water. The Hydro Jetting process will eliminate any build up to flow down the line eliminating the possibility of debris getting caught up and creating another stoppage.
The number one question to most is, how long will the Hydro Jetting last and will this process damage my pipes?
First, let’s answer the “how long will it last” question. Basic snaking or rootering could last only a few days or it could last months. As described above, it’s hard to tell and it is not a 100% solution to drain stoppages.
Will Hydro Jetting damage my pipes?
The simple answer is no, if your piping is in good shape to begin with. Remember, Hydro Jetting is the only proven method of actually clearing the inner walls of your drain piping system.
Galvanized piping is the traditional piping used in most houses built before the early 1970’s.
Let’s imagine a pipe being used for sewage and water that’s been in place for 40+ years then let’s add the liquid drain cleaning element (Acid) to the old metal pipe. Needless to say, this is not a good mixture.
In most cases, what you end up with is an old rusted pipe that the acid has eaten through. Granted, this isn’t the scenario in all cases, but it sure paints an ugly picture.
We may be able to help. If the piping is in decent shape, Hydro Jetting is the most cost effective way of cleaning the drainage piping without going to the expense of demolition or replacement.
Drain Cleaning Products:
I’ve heard many theories of how drain cleaning products work wonders; the bottom line is if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Just read the bottle of the “non-harmful” drain cleaning product you are attempting to pour down your drain line. The first thing you read is DANGER! “KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN” TOXIC. I don’t know about you, but anything that is an acid based product I don’t want to put in my drains. Remember, most homes have metal drain lines and the last time I checked, acid and metal don’t mesh well. I do know of a product that is helpful. It is an enzyme/bacteria product called Bio Clean that will help maintain clean drains, but it still will not clear a stoppage. This brings us back to the option of Mechanical Snaking or, more importantly, Hydro Jetting as described above.
Hydro Jetting Sewers with Roots:
Can a Hydro Jetting remove roots?
Yes they can, depending on the condition of the pipe.
In most cases, the Hydro Jetting process can remove tree roots from a sewer pipe. Most sewer pipes made out of clay will allow roots to enter after time. These Clay Sewer Pipes were attached together every 6’ with cement. After time, the cement breaks down allowing water to escape through the connection points. It’s at this location that the roots penetrate into the sewear searching for water. Upon entering into the smallest crack in the Clay Sewer Pipe the roots can spread like wild fire. I have personally seen tree roots enter into a Sewer Pipe about the size of a Q-tip and grow its root the size of an arm in width. Also, I have seen the same size enter into a sewer pipe and grow to fill the inside of a 4” pipe solid 6’ long. In these cases, replacement is the only solution. Yet smaller growth can be removed and last years in some cases, but in time the roots will grow back.
Orange-berg Sewer Pipe:
The bad news with this piping is that the only option is replacement.
After time, this Tar Paper molded piping collapses becoming oval, sometimes crushing. In fact, this piping is so brittle that simply squeezing it between your palms will crush the pipe. When roots enter into this pipe running a mechanical snake can create more problems than you started off with. This piping cannot be repaired due to the crushed pipe. In fact, no fittings are made to connect round pipe to oval pipe. Simply put, replacement is your only option.
Trenchless Sewer Replacement:
There are a couple of options here:

#1 Pipe Bursting: This process replaces the existing pipe with a new plastic, but welded pipe. A special cone shaped metal head is pulled through the existing sewer replacing the existing pipe as it is pulled through with a hydraulic machine. The positive side of this Pipe Bursting process is it is affordable, long lasting and there is a limited amount of landscape repair that is needed. The only downfall to the Pipe Bursting process is some cities have not approved this process and if there is an existing belly (sagging) of the existing sewer the new burst sewer will have this sagging as well. Most sewers being replaced using the Pipe Bursting process only require two holes; one at each connection location. The Pipe Burst process can sometimes be completed in a one-day process. We use this process on a daily basis and offer a 25 year warranty.

#2 Sewer Lining:
Sewer Lining is another technique that can help save money, as well as eliminate sewer problems on a permanent basis. The Sewer Lining process relines the existing sewer with a new fiberglass pipe. The new fiberglass pipe is blown in to the existing sewer then inflated while cured to form fit the inner lining of the pipe.
Approximately 50-75% costlier than the fore-mentioned process, this process is used normally in a specific manner or in certain situations. When needed, the sewer lining process, while more expensive than the other, can save time and substantial money.
One example is the repair on a sewer lateral. This is the section of piping that attaches your hosue sewer to the city sewer and, yes, unfortunately, this section is your responsibility. Throughout the years, the only way to repair this section of piping was to saw cut, excavate down in the city street and physically remove and replace the bad section of pipe. And yes, this process is very costly. I’ve seen numbers starting at a minimum of $20,000. Yes, your kids college fund went right down the drain, no pun intended.
The sewer lining process can repair most sewer laterals costing less than half the cost. In most cases, this process can also be completed in one day and normally only requires one hole in your landscaping. We can transition between 4” and 6” sewers and it will come with a 25 year warranty as well.
Water Heater Maintenance:
This process is like an oil change on your car. Want it to last? Then make sure this is completed at least once a year.
After time, solid debris will settle at the bottom of your Water Heater forming a barrier between the fire that heats the water and the thermostat located aboe the bottom of the tank. This layer of debris can cause the water heater to over work, wasting fuel and creating over heating of the bottom of the water heater tank. Have you ever heard your water heater rumbling? This happens when the debris finally allows the cool water entering into your tank to hit the red hot over heated bottom of the tank. This process creates a contracting and expanding of the metal at the bottom of the tank leading to a cracked water heater tank in the future. Also, each water heater has a magnesium anode rod installed into it. This will attract the electrical current that travels through your water system protecting the inner lining of the water heater from corrosion. After time, this rod will disintegrate. It must be inspected and replaced every couple of years.
